Coaches Training and Certifications

Player safety is the highest priority for all of us. Big Walnut Youth Sports will be partnering with the National Alliance for Youth Sports (www.nays.org) to provide each coach with annual training and certification. This partnership will enable BWYSO to provide more opportunities for coaches and allow each sport to share resources, so all volunteers will have the best information and training available.

NAYS Certification

NAYS Certification and Background Check

BWYSO has integrated our background check system with the online NAYS certification and training.
ALL COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS NEED TO SETUP AND ACCOUNT THROUGH NAYS TO GET CERTIFIED TO COACH.

Every Coach in our programs will be required to complete the NAYS online training. This training is paid for by Big Walnut Youth Sports and is a great resource for all coaches.

Instructions for signing up to to complete the NAYS Coach Online Training:

Go to the NAYS homepage at nays.org.
Click on SIGN UP – Located on the upper right-hand corner of the NAYS homepage.
On the following page (log in hub) locate the RED COACH box and click JOIN NOW!
Take a moment to review the How It Works page and then click GET STARTED.
Note: The membership fee is paid by your local NAYS Member Organization. To bypass the payment page, you must select the organization’s name on the dropdown.
1. Select a sport on the Registration page.
2. Enter the required information on the Contact Information page.
3. Select your NAYS Member Organization’s name – BIG WALNUT YOUTH SPORTS
4. Complete the Background Check information
5. Review the Member Details on Confirmation page. Edit, if necessary.

Once you have completed the registration process:
Locate the Click here to get started! link on the Your Registration is Now Complete! page to begin the online training or you may return later by logging in at nays.org. Log in with the email and password used during the registration process.

Review each section of the Coaching Youth Sports video.
Answer the 15 Review Questions - You will receive your results with an opportunity to correct your answers.
Read and acknowledge Coaches Code of Ethics – SUBMIT.
Once back on the TRAINING MENU, select the sport you registered for – GO TO TRAINING.
Complete each section of the sport specific portion of the training.
Answer the 10 Review Questions - You will receive your results with an opportunity to correct any incorrect answers.

Upon completion of the online training, you will have instant access to a personalized online Member Page. Please be sure to take advantage of all the benefits offered to you as part of your NAYS membership, including FREE trainings; Concussion Awareness, Bullying Prevention, Protecting Against Abuse, and Coaching Children with Mental Health Challenges.

Concussion Training and Certification

Concussion Training and Certification
Once you have completed the NYAS registration you will have access to the Concussion Awareness training course. We need you to complete the course through NAYS moving forward. We will be using the NAYS website as our database for coaches certification and this will allow us to see all your certifications in one place.

Background Checks

Background Checks

Every volunteer that has contact with the players MUST have a completed background check. We will be using Verified Volunteers to run our background checks moving forward and will be sharing this system with the other youth sports as well. Once you have a background check on file it will be good for all programs that are a part of the Big Walnut Youth Sports program.

Background checks are now integrated with the NAYS registration so once you have registered with NAYS your background check will be run automatically.
